As a busy fellow consumed with clinical training and feeling the constant need to read, read, read, it can be overwhelming to decide what resources to use. At the end of a long day, I must admit that sometimes Speroff is too soporific.  To fight the desire to sleep, I picked up, “Individualized In-Vitro Fertilization: Delivering Precision Fertility Treatment,” and found it extremely refreshing and educational.

This 140 page book, slim enough to take anywhere, is a wonderful resource packed full of practical knowledge. The content is balanced, including a solid foundation on the principles of IVF while also digesting the latest research articles, presenting them in an easy to read format.

The style of writing is engaging so you will flow through chapters effortlessly and gain an excellent overview of the practical points to IVF care, focusing on ways to personalize treatment for your patients. Just a few of the questions you will find clear answers to in this text are: how do I personalize IVF stimulation for patients with normal, high or low response? For whom should the oral contraceptive pill be used prior to an IVF cycle? Which ovulation trigger type and dose is ideal for my specific patient? What method and duration of luteal support is best for my patient’s needs?

Each chapter has excellent references with up to date information, and the text doesn’t get bogged down in minute details. There is a perfect balance of research support with clinical pearls, and it is written in such a way that it focuses on the clinically relevant points for challenging patient scenarios that arise every day in the IVF clinic.

Sometimes you want a textbook chapter when looking for the complete background and through summary of an expansive topic. Sometimes you want a very niche research study answering one specific clinical question. But for all the in-betweens, where you just want a trustworthy, clinically relevant, pleasant read about the practical considerations of running an IVF cycle, this book is your go to. The clear chapter headings and full color photos and diagrams make it an excellent reference and an essential guide to keep on your shelf or in your whitecoat pocket.
